Storytelling on the Fly
Russ' images capture moments of life as a performance, candid displays of emotion, personality and connection as they unfold.
The aesthetic that infuses his photojournalism grew out of his studies of multimedia production for dance and theater at the University of Michigan.
His work has been published in the New York Times, MSNBC and Time Out New York. While living in New York City, He's covered a wide variety of events such as corporate meetings for ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations), UN press briefings and demonstrations for the CICC (Coalition for the International Criminal Court), and off-Broadway shows for the Ensemble Studio Theatre and the New York International Fringe Festival.
Russ' unobtrusive and personable approach to photography allows him to document genuine interactions and expressiveness. His experience working in various high pressure situations -- executives networking with heads of state, key moments acted out on stage, and brides getting ready on their big day -- enables him to capture the fleeting moments that his clients value highly.
